Description: | RU s. in pencil b.r. "Chas R Mackintosh"; inscr. in pencil t.l. "SKETCH FOR MIRROR" DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) Mackintosh designed Windyhill, Kilmacolm for his client, William Davidson, a provisions merchant, who was to become one of Mackintosh's most loyal patrons. Davidson had previously commissioned furniture from Mackintosh in the 1890s for his property at Gladsmuir, Kilmacolm. This design is virtually as executed (see GLAHA 41230), except that the mirror was finally placed forward of the centre line of the base, a heart-shaped motif was pierced in the supports for the trays, and the glass decoration over the mirror did not incorporate the lead- work as shown in this drawing. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | FURNITURE DESIGN : CHEVAL MIRROR : WINDYHILL, KILMACOLM : DAVIDSON, WILLIAM : KILMACOLM : CRM ONLINE : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
