Description: | RU s. b. r. "GEORGE HENRY / TOKIO / 1894"; T & R Annan & Sons Ltd label on verso [see file]; Scottish Arts Council label on back [see file] CRE HENRY, George; (Scottish; c. 1859-1943) Whistler's fascination with Japanese culture was of great importance to the Glasgow Boys, and as a city, Glasgow had developed strong ties with Japan. Glasgow art dealers regularly held exhibitions of Japanese art, and, in 1893, the dealer Alexander Reid (1854-1928) helped finance the trip of two of the Boys, Henry and his friend Edward Atkinson Hornel (1864-1933) to Japan. Henry's elegant and decorative Japanese watercolours mark a high point in his career. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | ORIENT : FIGURE : PORTRAIT : FEMALE : GLASGOW BOY : JAPAN : BEAUTY : : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
