Description: | 35.7 x 31.6 ATTR MURILLO, Bartolome Estevan; (Spanish; 1618-1682) CRE ITALIAN SCHOOL; 17th century From the founder, William Hunter's collection. The artist of this beautiful head study has yet to be identified. Its 1813 attribution to Murillo by Laskey is clearly wrong. In colouring it looks like the work of Passarrotti or Annibale Carracci. Although the painting has no known provenance before 1813, Hunter had a small group of such head study paintings, including a head of a boy by Sacchi, and clearly understood their function as studio tools for artists. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | HEAD : MALE : CHILD : HEAD STUDY : HUNTER 2007 : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
