A landscape painter to start with, he turned towards portrait painting from about 1892. His style was based on a combination of Whistler's tonal approach and Sargeant's more bravura brushwork. Mann's portrait practice was very successful and he moved to London in 1900. This portrait could be that of Jessie Turner [?], later Mrs McLardy. Her son, Mr McLardy, has another portrait of her by H. Mann, aged 5, dated 1893. Harrington Mann's sisters were at Park School at about the same time as Jessie Turner. She died in the great flue epidemic of 1919.This portrait could be that of Jessie Turner [?], later Mrs McLardy. A portrait of her by H. Mann, aged 5, dated 1893, is owned by her son, Mr McLardy.
