(3) Watermark; Pro Patria / F 1 CRE WHISTLER, James McNeill; (American; 1834-1903) PRINT WAY, Thomas Robert; (English; 1861-1913) The pose of the young girl in "Nude Model, Reclining", is similar to that of a number of pastels produced by Whistler in the early 1890s. When Whistler first received the proofs of this lithograph he declared it "a great success". He then proposed that the transfer drawing be used as the basis for a lithotint, but upon seeing a sketch of Whistler?s suggested improvements Thomas Way strongly advised against the idea. This lithograph was printed by Thomas Way in 1896. (See also GLAHA 46285/49535/49649/49660).
