Description: | CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) The drawings are of architecture, plants, and landscape. Scottish subjects included Langside, Glasgow; Stirling; Baltersan Castle, Crossraguel Abbey and Maybole Castle Ayrshire; Corrie, Arran; Ascog, Bute; and Kirkwall, Orkney. A few are dated 1894, 1895 and 1896. A later visit to Kent is also recorded with a drawing of Penshurst in 1910. There are designs for Miss Cranstons's tea rooms in Buchanan Street, Glasgow, and for various pieces of furniture related to the Mackintoshes' flat at 120 Mains Street, Glasgow. The numbering on the pages is a later addition. Blank pages have not been recorded.
Twelve Mackintosh sketchbooks are recorded: Hunterian, 6; The Glasgow School of Art, 2; the National Library of Ireland, 3; and Private Collection, 1. In addition the Hunterian has 74 pages from dismembered sketchbooks recording other trips to England between 1895 and 1905. Other pages, particularly from the Italian tour of 1891, are held in various public and private collections. The conservation, digitisation and cataloguing of the Hunterian sketchbooks were supported by a grant from Museums Galleries Scotland in 2010 - 2011.
