"I Morin fcul cum privi Reg" CRE MORIN, Jean; (French; 1605-1650) AFTER DYCK, Anthony van, Sir; (Flemish; 1599-1641) Pupil of Philippe de Champaigne, Jean Morin was first a painter, and then started engraving. Using both etching and engraving, he soon mastered this art, and his portraits, inspired by Van Dyck 's style, are remarquable. Van Dyck visited Paris in 1625, after 2 years in Mantoue, but did not stay long as the welcome he received was not really warm, and he wanted to go back to his country. He came back for a short while in 1641, when he was official painter of the king Charles I. Jean Morin could have met him at each of his short visits. Bentiviglio was one of the main figures of the Italian Episcopate in the 17th century.
