CRE MORIN, Jean; (French; 1605-1650) AFTER CHAMPAIGNE, Philippe de; (French; 1602-1674) Jean Morin was the Pupil of Philip de Champaigne, and both were excellent portraitists. Philippe de Champaigne was essentially a painter, and was the official painter of the queen Mary de Medicis. He portrayed most personnalities of the court, apart from ladies, as he did not pay attention to physical beauty and was only interested by the soul. Jean Morin studied painting with him and later started engraving. Using both engraving and etching, he mastered his art, and his portraits, inspired by Van Dyck's style, are remarquable. He engraved numerous works from his master. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | PORTRAIT : ACCOUNTANT : LOUIS XIII : XVIITH CENTURY : FRANCE : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
