Description: | DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) This chair was designed for the Smoking and Billiard Rooms, Miss Cranston's' tea rooms, Argyle Street, Glasgow. Originally the back posts rose by another six inches, but at some point these were cut off this example and capped. This chair is a witty design. The seat is carved with a shape like the outline of an apple, or a plump bottom. The image shows the item on public display in The Mackintosh House at the Hunterian Art Gallery. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | FURNITURE : ARMCHAIR : DECORATIVE ART : 120 MAINS STREET, GLASGOW : CRANSTON, CATHERINE : TEA ROOMS : ARGYLE STREET TEA ROOMS, GLASGOW : MISS CRANSTON'S : 78 SOUTHPARK AVENUE, GLASGOW : 6 FLORENTINE TERRACE, GLASGOW : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
