Leg: PRAEMIVM PHYS IOAN ANDERSON DONAT (around) CRE TASSIE. James; (Scottish; 1735-1799) undated A Scottish scientist and natural philosopher, Anderson was educated at the University of Glasgow, where he became Professor of Natural Philosophy in 1757. Along with many mechanical inventions, he worked on the Newcomen Engine, later developed by James Watt. Professor Anderson bequeathed all his apparatus and his library for the foundation of an educational institute in Glasgow, first known as the Anderson College, now the University of Strathclyde.
