Description: | This cup was a gift from Hunter's 1761 class and was one of his most cherished possessions. He had been consulted on the Queen's first pregnancy and was hoping to become a Royal Physician. Such a new position at court would allow him to further his plans for a National School of Anatomy. This jump in his career led him to consider closing his own school. His pupils convinced him to continue. They presented the cup to Hunter as a token of their appreciation.
In 2007 the University of Glasgow marked the end of the bicentenary year of its Hunterian Museum & Art Gallery with a special commission to a young student at The Glasgow School of Art. The new Hunter Cup is a contemporary response to one of the prized possession of Dr William Hunter, the museum's founder.
