Description: A photographic portrait of Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809-1892), taken at the studio of Henry Herschel Hay Cameron (1852-1911) in about 1886. The youngest son of the photographer Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879), Henry ran a photographic studio in London before having a patchy career as an actor. Tennyson had often been photographed by Julia Margaret Cameron who was his neighbour on the Isle of Wight. Tennyson was the most popular poet of the Victorian period.
