Description: | The University of Aberdeen's collection of Military medals is dominated by the 301 medals awarded to the Gordon Clan. These medals were collected by a member of the clan and donated to the museum in 1989. The geographic area covered by these medals spans Asia, the Pacific, Africa, the Atlantic and America. The chronological period begins in 1625 and ends with 1953 including a large number of medals from both the World Wars. Included among the collection of medals are: Distinguished Conduct Medals; Military General Service Medals; Seringapatam Medal 1799, Long Service Medals; Good Conduct Medal; Companion's Badge of Order of the Bath (military); Companion of Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George and the Baronets Badge of Nova Scotia. The medals cover the Gordon clan's service in the Army and the Navy. Individual museum records contain biographic information for the recipient of the medal and background information. The collection includes a series of medals issued to Mrs Eileen E. S. Gordon-Hall who had received four medals from the British Red Cross: Proficiency in nursing; Medal for Merit; Three Years Service; and War Service Medal. The collection includes a number of military medals issued to University Alumni and international awards such as a Turkey Gallipoli Star 1914 - 1918 and Prussia War with France 1870 - 71.
