Description: | Device for determining the paramagnetic susceptibility of salts. The salt in a thin glass tube is suspended on a balance arm that is damped by oil and at the other end of which is a small scale whose position is read by built-in telescope. The deflection is observed when the sample is moved into or out of a magnetic field. The movement is achieved by sliding the magnet along a calibarted track. Wooden box (to exclude draughts) with glass front and back. Both glass sides open up to give access to inside.
