Scotland - David Martin (1737-1797) was born in Anstruther, Fife. He was a portrait painter in oil and chalk, mezzotint and line engraver. He was a pupil of Allan Ramsay in London from c1752, he continued to work in the studio as well as studying at St. Martin's Lane Academy until the 1760s. He returned to Edinburgh after the death of his wife.
