"Iron Halberd head, Inverness (c17th cent)."
Author: Inglis,Jim & Curtis,Neil Date: 1990 Purpose: Encyclopaedia of the North-East
"Soldiers and guards had various weapons in the 17th century, and although guns and cannons were available they were not in widespread use and the personal weapons of a private soldier would have been a halberd, pike or spear, a shield and possibly a sword or dirk. This is a 17th century iron pike head, which would have been mounted on a wooden pikestaff. It is simply made of one piece of metal, with two wings at the base of the head and the socket being flanges of the metal shaped to fit around the staff. It comes from Inverness."
