Description: | Bust portrait of Peter Blackburn, 3/4 facing right, with right hand holding a red book. He has a white beard and moustache, and is wearing a black gown with ruff. Peter Blackburn was minister of St Nicholas, Aberdeen and later Bishop of Aberdeen, 1603. Moderator of the general assembly at Dundee. Married to sister of Arthur Johnston.
"Blackburn (d. 1616) was minister of St Nicholas, Aberdeen and later Bishop of Aberdeen. He was one of the signatories of the Foundation Charter of Marischal College in April 1593. Blackburn was probably the first Dean of Faculty at Marischal in 1598 and was Chancellor of King's College from 1600. George Jamesone (1590-1644) was a native of Aberdeen and Scotland's first known painter of real merit. Traditionally he is said to have trained in Antwerp, and his work has strong affinities with the Low Countries."
