Description: | 3/4 portrait of John Colvin, standing. He is balding with grey hair and full beard, wearing black suit and academic gown, and is holding King's College mace. Plain brown background. Colvin Sacrist at Marischal 1843-1872, 1872-91 Sacrist at King's. The work was commissioned as a memorial to Colvin.
"Colvin was Sacrist at Marischal, (1843-1872) and Sacrist at Kings (1872-91). A. D. Reid (1844-1908) was younger brother of G. Reid (1841-1913). A.D. Reid trained in the RSA schools and in Paris. Like his brother he was by inclination a landscape painter who often produced portraits. He not infrequently was employed as a copyist of his more renown brother's work."
