Description: | Slightly curved sword, yataghan, of kopis form. Steel blade, with engraved inscriptions and floral decorations, the back slightly decorated on the upper part with repetitive relief circles. The sword has been used in fighting: sword cuts in edge of blade. Inscription in Persian(?) seems to be a verse of poetry talking about revenge on the enemy, but needs to be read by a Turkish or Persian speaker. Hilt of walrus ivory with a brass strip edging the tang decorated with red coral beads on one side and relief diamond shape designs on the other. Bolster covered with gold and decorated with three coral beads and multiple designs on each side: one bead missing from each side. The scabbard of wood covered with leather. Brass locket and small chape. The leather sewn down the middle of the scabbard by a thread and joined together by twisted thin wire. The leather is more wrinkled at the top and torn. Twisted wire safeguards the brass locket . Old label stuck at top of scabbard. Possible sword or knife cuts on different parts of the leather covering.
