Description: | Turkish sword with strongly-curved single-edged watered steel blade, wider towards the point. Pronounced T back. Three small grooves near the point and a slightly convex area between the middle two grooves. Blade chiselled and gilt with floral designs near the hilt and on small area where the T section back ends. Gold inlaid date and maker's name on one side. Hilt of cross guard with langets, and pistol grip. Crossguard enamelled in black with overlaid golden frieze round it, and finials shaped like fishtails, scored in the middle. Rhino-horn pistol grip with globular pommel; the eye for the sword knot is slightly damaged. Scabbard of wood covered with dark red velvet. Mounts: two lockets and a chape of two colours, black enamel overlaid with gold floral decorative designs on both sides, with a black decorated metal strip from the middle locket to the chape, and another from middle locket to front locket missing. The chape terminal is in the shape of a gate or doorway. Inscriptions: in Arabic. Maker's name in a circle: (Mohammed or Sammed Dawooda), written small and cannot be easily identified, and above that, in decorative design: (year 950)
