Description: | Curved double-edged dagger-like blade fixed at right-angles to a cylindrical wooden shaft having a ribbed centre section covered with black leather. Each side of the blade has three ribs meeting near the point, one in the centre, two at the sides. The central rib joined to a leaf shaped reinforce with two small animal heads at the sides, decorated with floral designs in gold damascening.
Small Arabic inscription in centre of reinforce: (victory from God and forthcoming conquest). Above the Arabic inscription another in Persian on the wooden shaft hilt: a verse of poetry or words of wisdom?. On the reverse an inscription in Persian with the owner's name: (Khan Tajer). On the grip, another inscription in Persian, also poetry or verses of wisdom. On the back of the grip an inscription written in Arabic in the middle of a circle and square: (Oh, Hayder, Amir of the faithful). Hayder is one of the names given to Ali, the Prophet's cousin: this weapon belonged to a Shi'te. Shaft terminal a small dome shape with spiral lines decorated with floral designs and gold overlaid. Black leather shaft covering is worn at the top showing the string used for fixing the shaft to the grip.
