Description: | Mr. Whitehead the donor of this photograph was the last Town Hall Superintendent (1977-1988) \"The Council Chamber is 60 feet long x 40 feet wide. Sumptuous and suitable furniture is provided, and the ceiling is elaborately ornamented. In the centre of a curved dias and under a beautiful carved oak pediment stands the Mayoral Chair, with a high back and half canopy supported by two pillars from the arms of the chair. On each side of the Lord Mayor\'s chair are chairs for the use of the Aldermen of the City and immediately in front there is further accomodation for the Town Clerk and his staff. The seats and desks for the Councillors are in a half-circle facing the Lord Mayor & Aldermanic Bench. The Press Tables are on each side of the Town Clerk and the general public are accommodated in the Strangers\' Gallery, which face the Lord Mayor\'s Chair. Access to this Gallery is obtained from a separate entrance & staircase in Cheney Row. The walls are oak panelled to a height of 10 feet.
