Title: St Mary's Church, Slough. About 1900 [Go to resource]
Description: When the church was first built in 1837 it was dedicated to St. Laurence and was intended to replace the decayed church of St Laurence at Upton. Although the original Upton church survived, the new church in Slough was still required to meet the needs of an expanding population. The new church was consecrated in 1837 but by an oversight was not registered for marriages. All marriages that took place were illegal until a special Act of Parliament was passed in 1850. In 1878 the church was enlarged and reconsecrated to St. Mary. The nave was enlarged in 1912 and the spire added in 1913.
