[Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.]
This house originated as an early 17th century timber framed building with a continuous jetty facing the street. In 1645 a stone rear wing was added and at some point in the 17th century the rear wall of the main building was replaced in stone. Early in the 18th century another rear wing, jettied on the east, was added and the street front was heightened and encased in stone. Refitting was carried out in the early 19th century, adding shop fronts and a central staircase. In the former rear wall of the main building is a 17th century window. The north gable of the rear wing has a datestone of 1645. The interior includes an 18th century staircase in no. 25 and an 18th century stone fireplace with decorated 19th century wrought iron grate. There are also two panelled rooms. {1}
This ashlar stone building dates to the mid 18th century [this date is probably incorrect - see above]. It is three storeys in height with attics and consists of three small shops in one building.
