An archaeological watching brief monitoring a watermain reinforcement scheme between Coningsby and Woodhall, identified an undated feature immediately north of Swan Farm, Tumby. The feature consisted of a layer of pitched limestone slabs that extended over a distance of 10m in both sides of the trench. Due to the limitations of the ground works, no alignment for the limestone feature could be established. Deposits forming make-up and earlier surfaces of the present roadway overlay the pitched stonework and earlier natural deposits. The feature probably represents the make-up layer associated with an early phase of road construction. It is possible, however, that it formed the foundation layer of a structure or building {1} {2} | Subjects: | General Archaeology | Source: | Lincolnshire County Council | Identifier: | http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/Re... | Go to resource |
