Description: | Three patches of dark soil and early second to late fourth century pottery, including a high proportion of samian, was found in the field 200 yards from the B1390 about one mile south of Long Sutton. Excavation has revealed eight hut floors, although Hallam reports 12 hut sites. The grid reference indicates a point approximately 450 yards north of the B1390 where inconclusive surface colour variation is visible on aerial photographs, which also show loose ditched enclosures and droves extending over a considerable area to the south-west. The owner of the land, indicated the Romano-British settlement was at TF41252105 and stated that the excavations closed in the spring of 1962. The site is now under crop. Old fragments of Romano-British ware are still found there occasionally. {1} | Subjects: | General Archaeology | Temporal: | 43 - 409 | Source: | Lincolnshire County Council | Identifier: | http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/Re... | Go to resource |
