Geophysical survey undertaken on the field recorded a number of positive anomalies. In the centre of the field and extending to the west were a series of east to west aligned anomalies. These correspond to ditches and embankments recorded during a subsequent earthwork survey. These features may represent relict ridges and ditches within a former ridge and furrow agricultural system. Probable southeast to northwest ridge and furrow eathworks were visible in the orchard forming the northeastern part of the study area, and intact ridge and furrow was present in an adjacent field to the south.{1}{2}
Archaeological evaluation (trial trenching) recorded a number of southwest to northeast aligned furrows, along with a southwest to northeast 'bank' and ditch which may form part of a much larger Medieval field system.{1}{2} | Subjects: | General Archaeology | Temporal: | 1066 - 1539 | Source: | Lincolnshire County Council | Identifier: | http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/Re... | Go to resource |
