Three double-courtyard plan workhouses in Lincolnshire, those of Bourne, Spalding and Stamford Unions, were by a local architect, Bryan Browning, who also designed the 'square'-plan Peterborough Union Workhouse. Of these buildings, only Bourne survives.{1}
A courtyard plan workhouse is depiected on the Ordnance Survey County Series map of 1905.{2}
Spalding Union Workhouse was built 1836-7, and had a detatched school and infirmary.
