STOKE ROCHFORD STOKE ROCHFORD PARK SK 92 NW 6/171 Ornamental archway, approx. 350 M south of Stoke Rochford Hall 14.7.1978 G.V. I Archway. 1676, altered 1704, reduced C19 to form ornament in Stoke Rochford Park for Sir Christopher Turnor. Ashlar with coursed limestone rubble side walls. Plinth, rusticated quoins and segmental pediment. Round headed central archway, rusticated, with key block, flanked by panelled Doric pilasters, within the bases blank semi-circular headed niches with key and impost blocks and cornices. Above the arch a rectangular panel contains the date 1704 and beneath is a Latin inscription recording the death of Sir Edmund Turnor. Above the dentillated cornice is a keyed oculus with rusticated slightly advanced panels to either side. Thought to be on the site of the stable block to the former house. In the side walls are chamfered rectangular doorways.
