Description: | William Burnes (1721-84), the father of Robert Burns was born in the Kincardine-shire area and was trained as a marker gardener, like his father before him. He travelled south seeking work and eventually settled in Alloway, Ayrshire. He married Agnes Broun and had 7 children.
This certificate with other Burnes family documents are displayed in the Burns Cottage Museum, Alloway.
In 1750 William Burnes arrived in Ayrshire and was employed by the Earl of Fairlie in the parish of Dundonald, being employed as a gardener.
