Description: | Two page letter which Burns wrote to Graham of Fintry's wife enclosing a poem of which he was particularly pleased titled 'Epistle to Robert Graham Esq: of Fintry on the Election for the Dumfries string of Boroughs, Anno 1790-'. The letter expresses his indebtedness to the goodness of Robert Graham and his wife. (letter No 402)
He then goes on to express how deeply indebted he is to Mrs Graham and her husband for their goodness and Patronage. Dwelling on his own poverty which he hopes will be outlived by his poetry.
In the first page Burns starts by introducing his reason for writing as being the poem which he is inclosing 'particularly to You' for Mrs Graham. The ballad whose subject is her husband, being one which Burns feels is more successful than most. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0 | Publisher: | Burns Monument Trust | Temporal: | 1790-01-01 - 1790-12-31 | Source: | Burns Scotland | Identifier: | Letter of Robert Burns to Mrs Graham of | Go to resource |
