Description: | Gold Gallic contemporary copy of a Solidus of Anastasius (491-518), possibly of the Pseudo-Merovingian coinage, c. 500-580. Copied from a coin of Constantinople. Found with associated Early Medieval finds from a ploughed cemetery site (Treasure case no. 2007 T203).Note: the BM has 7 imitations of solidi of Anastasius, but none are very similar to this piece.References: Hahn, MIB I, type as no. 4; MEC, plate 17, c. f. nos. 336 & 347-8.
