Eastern bronze unit inscribed 'CVNO' Weight: 1.36g VA 2107 = BMC 1991 Registered as CCI 08.6335 VA = Van Arsdell, Celtic Coinage of Britain, London, 1989 BMC = Hobbs, British Iron Age Coins in the British Museum 1996 CCI = Celtic Coin Index, Oxford & London The copper alloy ring An incomplete copper alloy ring, roughly circular in section and with an external diameter of 18 mm, weight 3.5g was found in the same area as the coins. Analysis by the British Museum (see attached report) found this to be brass, of a composition not found in the Iron Age. The technique of manufacture of the object is indicative of a modern date and there is therefore no reason to suggest that it was at one time associated with the hoard, which was found scattered over a small area. Recommendation These coins satisfy the various criteria of the Treasure Act. They are more than 300 years old and the find comprises more than two coins with precious metal content in excess of the 10% threshold. The type and reported circumstances of discovery suggest that they formed a single group at the time of their burial in antiquity. The brass ring does not appear to have been related to this deposit.
