Description: | Treasure number 2008 T447 Roman coin hoardRoman silver coin: clipped Siliqua of Arcadius, minted in Trier dating 388-95AD, Reece period 20. Reverse type VIRTVS ROMANORVM. RIC IX p33 no 106b.Report by Jude Plouviez and Sam MoorheadDiscussion 3 late Roman silver coins were found in close proximity in the plough soil. Although 175 other Roman coins were also found in the area (being recorded onto the Portable Antiquities Database), it seems that that these silver coins come from the same group. They date from 355 to 395; only 7 copper alloy coins amongst the other coins date to the same period, thus making it highly unlikely that the silver coins were stray losses. Furthermore, as might expect from hoard coins, the earliest piece (no. 1) is more worn than the later coins (nos. 2 &3). Composition The hoard consists of three silver siliquae, from the reigns of Julian as Caesar (355-60) Valentinan I (364-75) and Arcadius (383-408). The latest coin, of Arcadius, dates to 388-95. This group contains coins commonly found in late Roman silver hoards in Britain. The other two coins from the hoard are recorded on the database as ESS-2E3021 and ESS-2E1894
