Description: | A copper-alloy medieval seal matrix. The seal matrix depicts Mary holding the baby Jesus in her arms. To her right is a kneeling figure with hands held up as though praying. The figure is holding two flowers between its hands. The background is decorated with a motif of diamonds which have been dotted centrally. The circumferential legend reads 'MATER DEI MISERERE MEI' which can be translated as 'Mother of God have mercy upon me'. The handle of the seal is hexagonally faceted and ends in a trefoil terminal. Below the trefoil terminal are three circumferential ribs. The trefoil terminal has a central circular perforation. The matrix has a maximum diameter of 23.07mm, and is 30.1mm long.
