Description: | A brass key-plate from a small chest or case. There are holes for seven iron pins, which have left orange and black staining on the surface. The plate is roughly shield-shaped with ornamental perforated edge. Towards the top is a rectangular perforation; beneath this is the keyhole. On the reverse, these is a small strip of brass that was soldered to the plate, to stop it sliding around when attached; this protrudes as a small lug through the plate, which is visible to the right of the rectangular perforation on the obverse. This item is likely to date between the 16th to the 18th centuries. | Format: | text/html | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ | Publisher: | The Portable Antiquities Scheme | Rights holder: | The Portable Antiquities Scheme | Subjects: | archaeology | Temporal: | 1550
