Description: | Incomplete middle Anglo-Saxon ansate brooch made from copper alloy. The brooch is basically rectangular, with the terminals the same width as the bow. There is a transverse ridge at the end of the surviving terminal, and two hinge lugs survive on the reverse with iron corrosion from the pin in between, showing that this was the head of the brooch. There is another transverse ridge at the junction of bow and terminal, and another at the centre of the bow; the bow ridge and the ridge at the top of the headplate appear to have some rather carelessly applied grooves across them. The bow is hollowed behind, but the headplate is flat. The brooch is broken just beyond the ridge in the centre of the bow (worn break). It is 33.48mm long, 9.57mm wide and 9.89mm thick. | Format: | text/html | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ | Publisher: | The Portable Antiquities Scheme | Rights holder: | The Portable Antiquities Scheme | Subjects: | archaeology | Temporal: | 700
