First World War medal by Godefroid Devreese (1961-1941) which pays patriotic tribute to the inspirational roles played
by the King and Queen of Belgium, Albert and Elisabeth during the German occupation of their country (1914-1918). Although a Belgian
government in exile was established at Le Havre, Albert himself continued to live in that small remaining area of unoccupied Belgium, first
at De Panne and then Kasteel de Moeren. Following his involvement in the successful Courtrai offensive in the autumn of 1918 King Albert re-
entered Brussels as national hero on 22 November 1918. | Publisher: | http://www.iwm.org.uk | Subjects: | Albert I portrait / personification Queen of Belgium King of Belgium commemorative First World War Belgian Home Front & (?) 1914 Elisabeth | Source: | Imperial War Museum | Creator: | Devreese, Godefroid | Identifier: | http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/o... | Go to resource |
