German First World War large format portrait medal (in cast iron) by Fritz Eue commemorating Generaloberst Karl von
Einem (1853-1934), one in a series of patriotic medallic tributes to senior German military commanders produced by the artist during the
war. Von Einem served as Minister of War from 1903 to 1909. On the outbreak of war in 1914 he commanded VII Corps, serving in this capacity
until the First Battle of the Marne. Following the Marne he was given command of Third Army and served the entirety of the war with this
