Description: | Papers kept while serving as ADC to Field Marshal Earl Haig, Commander-in-Chief of the British Armies in France, 1915 - 1919, including: 2 ts certificates (2pp) awarding him the Order of Leopold, February 1916 and June 1916; a ms letter (2pp) from HRH The Prince of Wales (later HM King Edward VIII) at HQ 14th Corps, July 1917, thanking him for his letter and stating that the tour by the Queen 'was the greatest success imaginable'; a map (1p) with a ts explanation (1p) of the 'British Battles during 1918 (8th Aug. to 11th Nov., 1918)' showing the Allied and British advance during that period; 33 photographs taken during the First World War, including 13 featuring Haig (3 with Colonel Fletcher), 3 portraying a visit by Queen Mary, and 1 of The Kings and Queens of Belgium and Britain; a booklet of ts Selections from Special Orders of the Day (38pp) issued by the Field Marshal Commanding-in-Chief, the British Armies in France, 21 March 1918 - December 1918; a ts Order of March and Positions of Commanders (1p), undated; and Orders by Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig (52pp), July 1919, for the 'Victory March through London, 19 July' as part of the 'Peace Celebrations, 1919' giving the administration and organisation for and the Allied and British officers and troops involved in the parade; a Earl Haig Memorial Number (68pp, leather bound) issued by the British Legion, March 1928, with some newspaper cuttings relating to Haig's death pasted in; and a ts British Legion Order of Service (4pp) in Grateful Remembrance for Douglas Haig, July 1955.
