Description: | Two ms diaries, the first (64pp, July - October 1914) covering his command of the E class destroyer HMS STOUR, attached to the 9th Flotilla, patrolling off the East coast off Scarborough, and the second (116pp, February 1916 - October 1917) covering his command of the H class destroyer HMS RUBY, based at Plymouth and escorting warships and troopships through the Western Approaches and the English Channel, and as commander of the Grand Fleet destroyer HMS ONSLAUGHT, attached to the 12th Flotilla (June 1916), with details of patrols off Scapa Flow, torpedo attacks (August 1916), escorting the KILDONAN CASTLE taking Lord Milner's Mission to Russia (January 1917), a collision with HMS OBEDIENT, escorting Scandanavian convoys, with brief command of HMS NOBLE when HMS ONSLAUGHT was being repaired (October 1917).
