Description: | Microfilm copy of a ts memoir (154pp) covering his service as a junior RNR (RN from 1917) officer in the armed merchant cruiser HMS LACONIA, including operations against the German cruiser KONIGSBERG, November 1914 - July 1915; the armed merchant cruiser VIRGINIAN (10th Cruiser Squadron), January - June 1916; HMS OBSERVER (12th Destroyer Flotilla, Grand Fleet), June - August 1916; HMS ERIN (2nd Battle Squadron, Grand Fleet), August 1916 - August 1918, including the retrieval of wreckage from HMS VANGUARD in July 1917; HMS SALMON (12th Destroyer Flotilla, Grand Fleet), August 1918 - April 1919; afloat in the gunboat CICALA and ashore with a naval gun detachment on the Dvina River front in North Russia, May - October 1919; and in the sloop HMS BRYONY in the Eastern Mediterranean, February - September 1920; then in the Royal Australian Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in the armed merchant cruiser HMAS MANOORA on patrol and escort duties in the South West Pacific and the Indian Ocean, March 1941 - October 1942, and in command of the corvette HMAS LATROBE on convoy escort work in coastal waters off North Australia and New Guinea, October 1942 - February 1944.
