Description: | image: A hand drafted text, with the main title superimposed on the image. The sub-title is hand drafted in a panel at the
base of the same. Within a rectangular format the design shows Marianne in breast plate, poilu's helmet, voluminous tricolour skirt,
mounted and holding a spear in her right hand, seated upon a prancing piebald horse, moving left to right, its head obscured by a topiary
arch. Beneath the horse's rearing hooves stands a small German eagle, its head turned facing left. In the background, the arches continue
to a central distant point where their form is echoed in the arch of a playing fountain. The foremost topiary arch is surmounted on either
side of the span by two bowls overflowing with an unspecified purple fruit which descends through the arch supports. Endpapers with flaps
printed in a rose design, black on white, interspersed with the legend 'Vive la France' and rose heads hand coloured red and blue, leaves
in pale green. The whole cover is completed by a tricolour tie. | Publisher: | http://www.iwm.org.uk | Subjects: | Allegory Animals 01/3(4-15) Costume and fashion Military Personnel FR.A equestrian | Source: | Imperial War Museum | Creator: | Lutetia, Paris | Identifier: | http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/o... | Go to resource |
