Description: | First World War Military Cross awarded to 2nd Lieutenant Alan Egerton Collier, Royal Engineers, Special Reserve for conspicuous gallantry during the military operations on the Somme in 1916 (Battle of the Somme). 'He accompanied the advanced infantry and constructed, under heavy shellfire, a strong point in the line gained. His good work enabled an enemy counter-attack to be beaten off'. London Gazette, 22 September 1916).

silver ornamental Greek cross, the arms of which flare slightly at the extremities (H 49mm x W 44mm). Design: 'GRI' cypher, overlaid, in the centre of a smaller raised Greek cross superimposed upon the principal cross. At the end of each arm of the principal cross an Imperial crown. Suspender: straight bar, slotted, connected to piece via circular link. Ribbon: white/purple/white.
