First World War German portrait medal, one of a series of patriotic and inspirational pieces by Meyer & Wilhelm,
utilising the images of senior German military commanders of the First World War. Karl von Einem (1853-1934) served as Minister of War from
1903 to 1909. On the outbreak of war in 1914 he commanded VII Corps, serving in this capacity until the First Battle of the Marne.
Following the Marne he was given command of Third Army and served the entirety of the war with this force on the Western Front. The text on
the piece juxtaposes the balance of the opposed military alliances as it stood in 1916. | Publisher: | http://www.iwm.org.uk | Subjects: | DE.A Einem portrait / personification Central Powers & 1916 Karl von commemorative Alliance First World War | Source: | Imperial War Museum | Creator: | Meyer and Wilhelm | Identifier: | http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/o... | Go to resource |
