Description: | Medal commemorating the Battle of the Four Days, 1666 and Admiral Cornelis Evertsen (1610-1666). Obverse: Bust of Admiral Evertsen (three-quarter right) supporting tritons holding a wreath over his head, trophies on either side. On a scroll below (incuse): 'CORN . EVERTSEN . ADMIRAAL . V . ZEEL' (Cornelius Evertsen, Admiral of Zeeland). Legend: 'HEER EVERTS MET TRIOMF OP 'T BED VAN EER GESNEEFT . ALDUS IN 'T SILVER DOOR DE KUNST VAN MULLER LEEFT. AO . 1666 den 14. Junii' (Evertsen, dead in triumph on the field of honour, yet lives in silver through the art of M�ller). Reverse: A naval engagement, starboard quarter view of two vessels in the foreground, a sunken wreck below. Legend (incuse): 'HIER STRYCKT HET BRITSCH GEWELT VOOR' NEDERLANT DE VLAGH DE ZEE HEEFT NOIT GEWAEGHT VAN ZULK EEN' ZWAEREN SLAGH' (Here the English forces strike their flag to the Dutch. Never did the sea resound with such a tremendous conflict).
