Description: | Medal commemorating the victories over the Turks in Morea, 1687. Obverse: Victory seated, palm in right hand, which holds on knee an oval shield inscribed 'DE TVRCIS . 1686.' (Won from the Turks.) She is surrounded by four cupids holding plans of cities labelled 'NAVARINO, S . MAVRA, CORNO, CALAMATA, MODON, CHIFLATA.' Reverse: A cupid standing upon a monument flanked by trophies of Turkish arms, holding the medallions of the Doges. Giustiniani and Morosini 'M . ANT . IVSTINIANVS . VENET . DVX' 'FR . MOROSINI . ADV . TVRC . IMP'. On the front face of the monument a view of Naples, 'NAPOLI DI ROMANIA'. Two other cupids below with medallions showing views of cities. Legend: 'VIRTUS VENETA.' Inscription (on edge): 'HOC DUCTV ADRIACIS VENETAM MIRAMVR IN VNDIS STARE VRBEM ET TOTO PONERE IVRA MARI.' (With such leadership we marvel to behold the city of Venice standing upon the waters of the Adriatic and holding sway over the whole sea.) (School of Nuremberg)
