Description: | Medal commemorating the Battle of Cape Passaro, 1718. Obverse: Within two laurel wreaths the busts of the Emperor Charles VI, 'CAROLVS VI . D . G . ROM . IMP . SEMP . AVG', and King George I 'GEORGIVS .D . G . MAG . BR . FR . ET . HIB . R', facing each other, a caduceus rising from an antique galley between them. Legend: 'VETANT FOEDARI FOEDERA.' (They forbid treaties to be violated.) Reverse: Jupiter, borne by an eagle, and Neptune attack a fleet (left). Legend: 'SIC MOTOS FAS EST COMPONERE FLVCTVS.' (Thus is it right to calm the troubled waves.) Exergue: 'HISPANORVM CLASSIS A IOVE ET NEPTVNO DELETA.' (The Spanish fleet destroyed by Jupiter and Neptune.) The gods are symbolic of the Emperor and the King. (School of Nuremberg)
