W.V.VJ
On the right is a port broadside view of a smalschip in a light air. In the centre middle distance is a bow view of a ship at anchor with its mizzen, topsails and spritsail loosed, and a flag and pendant at the fore. The coastline is pictured in the distance, possibly in the Helder.
This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Younger, strengthened with pen and ink. The signature, ?W.V.VJ?, in brown ink is according to Robinson, probably false. The work is probably genuine, but marred by additions in pen and ink by a later hand. It has been very approximately dated by the style.
