Reverse: View of a naval action. Legend: 'VIAM INVENIT VIRTUS AUT FECIT'. Exergue: 'INTER CLASS. AMERI. ET BRIT. DIE X SEPT. MDCCCXIII.' (Between the American and British fleets, 11 September 1814.) The obverse is after the medal awarded by Congress and engraved by Moritz F�rst. It is signed by him, 'FURST. F.' below the truncation of the bust and in the exergue. The reverse shows the battle of Lake Erie from another Congressional medal.
